Add a Background Image to a Message in Outlook

To insert an image to the background of an email you are composing in Outlook:

  1. Make sure the message you compose uses HTML formatting.
  2. Position the cursor in the message body.
  3. Make sure the Options ribbon is active and expanded.
  1. Click Page Color in the ribbon's Themes section.
  2. Select Fill Effects... from the menu that has appeared.
  3. Go to the Picture tab.
  4. Click Select Picture....
  5. Find and highlight the desired background image.
  6. Click Insert.
  7. Now click OK.

To add a background image to a message in Outlook (provided that you do not use Word for editing emails):

  1. Start composing a new email using HTML formatting.
  2. Open the message's Format Text ribbon, for example, and make sure HTML is selected in the Format section.
  3. Click in the body of the message.
  4. Select Format | Background | Picture... from the menu.
  5. Use the file selection dialog to pick an image from your disk.
  6. Click OK.
  7. If you do not want the background image to scroll, you can prevent that, too.

Add a Background Image to a Message in Outlook for Mac

To use an image in the background of an email you are writing in Outlook for Mac:

Make sure the email is set to use rich HTML formatting.

Go to the Options ribbon, for example, and make sure HTML is enabled in the Format Text section.

Make sure the Options ribbon is active and expanded in the message composition window.

Click Background Picture.

Locate and highlight the image you would like to use.

Click Open.
